The Victorian State Government has published Reforming Social Services Regulation: A brief introduction to the reforms, which can be downloaded here. In response to the view that the current regulatory framework in Victoria for social services is fragmented and inefficient as well as complex and burdensome, a new set of standards called the Social Service Standards will be introduced to replace the existing Human Services Standards.
It is intended that the new scheme will cover: services supporting vulnerable children, young people and adults; service providers currently required to meet the Human Services Standards; registered Supported Residential Services; and potentially some alcohol and other drug (AOD) services.
The department will be working with stakeholders to design the new regulatory framework, which is due to be in place by early 2023.
